Samsung set to reveal causes of Note 7 explosions this Sunday

Samsung is set to reveal its findings during a press conference on Sunday related to the explosions of the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7, a device that the company was force to recall and discontinue the model which was considered to be one of the best smartphones in the market late last year before some units were combusting sporntaneously. The recall really hurt Samsung's brand as the Note 7 was not allowed on airplanes and various high profile incidents of explosions and fire made mainstream media.

Samsung will present its own investigation finding as well as results from "expert organizations" that conducted independent analysis of the Note 7 fires.

CES 2017: Samsung's Odyssey gaming notebook and Chromebook Pro devices not coming to Canada

Samsung's had another landmark year at the International CES 2017 with stunning new QOLED and Lifestyle TVs that bring simple yet remarkable mounting solutions to make TVs less like appliances and more like fine, functional objets d'art. The company has also made some compelling washer and dryer innovations. 

While there were no notable mobile or Galaxy announcements (seems they are saving that for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona), the company did make some huge announcements in the PC space. Most notably, Samsung's ready to square off with Alienware, Razer, ROG and other gaming hardware manufacturers with their newly announced Odyssey gaming notebooks.

Samsung steps up Personal Assistant game with acquisition of VIV

“Viv was built with both consumers and developers in mind. This dual focus is also what attracted us to Viv as an ideal candidate to integrate with Samsung home appliances, wearables and more, as the paradigm of how we interact with technology shifts to intelligent interfaces and voice control.”

Artificial Intelligence and personal assistants are going to play a big part of our mobile future. Google's CEO Sundar Pichai said as much during his keynote early this week by stating that A.I.-first will be the future and this interface goes beyond displays and moves into the realm of voice assistants.

Apple was an innovator in this space with Siri and has slowly placed Siri beyond the iPhone and iPad and into the Apple TV, CarPlay and now on macOS Sierra. The company that created Siri spun off from Apple some time ago and created a new assistant called VIV who is more extensible than Siri and can work with more services and apps. Viv was just purchased by Samsung for an undisclosed amount.
