‘Sherlock’ enters into darker territory in new trailer

SDCC gives us one big trailer after another. This time, we hear news about Sherlock and a look at the new season, which is possibly the last for the show. The trailer is ominous and possibly the darkest one yet, as Amanda Abbington said at their Comic-Con panel. Abbington was joined by Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Gatiss, and show co-creator Steven Moffat. Maybe it’s Moriarty, maybe it isn’t. We can’t say. But it’s looking like it’s going to be another great season.

Sherlock chases after the mysterious bride in new trailer

The new Sherlock Christmas special gets a new trailer. And we see our favorite detective duo Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Doctor John Watson (Martin Freeman) chase after a mysterious and supposedly dead bride. The mystery is aptly titled “The Abominable Bride” and this 19th century-set special has Sherlock and Watson investigating the ghostly newlywed who’s seems to be committing murder from beyond the grave.

‘Sherlock’ Victorian special gets title and release date

Just like a typical Sherlock Holmes mystery, the Victorian-set Sherlock special has been shrouded in, well, mystery. That is until now. The 90-minute special gets a new trailer (as seen above) and is called Sherlock: The Abominable Bride. It’ll be coming to the US via PBS and BBC One in the UK on January 1, 2016. There will also be a theatrical release of the film in select venues around the world.

The one-off special is set in 1890s London and it has been co-written by the series creators Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss; who are also now working on the fourth series of Sherlock. BBC One tweeted that the new series will start shooting next spring and it takes the duo into “deeper and darker water than ever before,” according to Gatiss.

New ‘Sherlock’ trailer sets the mood for the upcoming special

While we know that the new Christmas special of BBC’s Sherlock is set in the 19th century. We don’t know too many details about this Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat creation. Aside from seeing them in their Victorian garb (and John Watson’s moustache comeback), we sense the somewhat darker mood of the show. There is a mystery to be solved as we can see but aside from that, there isn’t much we can say. But, of course, it isn’t Sherlock without a few jokes and potshots at the leads’ expense, like Holmes’ famous hat.
