FOMO sufferers up by 56%

The Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) syndrome seems to be growing among social network users as seen in the results of a recent survey conducted by MyLife.com. Out of the 2,084 adults (ages 18 and above) surveyed, 56% of them fear they miss out on important status updates, events, and news when they aren't on their choice social networking sites. In connection with this, 51% of the respondents say they have visited their social networks more often than they did two years ago with 27% of them logging in first thing in the morning.

Some would even go to the extent of giving up an addiction to stay connected—approximately 26% would trade habits like smoking and watching reality TV for access to social networking sites. However, 52% of the respondents want to take a break from one or more of these sites but only 24% said they will push through with this. The reason? FOMO, obviously. You can see the entire infographic here.

Facebook to axe Sponsored Results

Earlier this month, Facebook announced they would be reducing the number of their ad units from 27 to less than half of that. Part of that streamlining method is taking out this July the Sponsored Results. You have been seeing these with brands, groups, and searches since August 2012.

Facebook decided to take it out after noticing that marketers used Sponsored Results and mobile app install ads quite similarly. Businesses will still be able to use the latter method along with post link ads.
