Spotify outs user-specific ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist

Spotify’s new feature is bringing you a more personalized playlist. The automatically generated and aptly named Discover Weekly playlist gives you an instant playlist based on the music you’ve been listening to. It also takes into account the taste of the people who listen to music similar to you. If you like a particular song, make sure to save it because the playlist updates every Monday. Spotify plans to bring this new feature to all its users in the coming weeks. For now, you’ll have to look for new stuff to listen to the “old-fashioned way” on Spotify and tap on that Discover tab or stalk your friends and see what they’re listening to.

Listen to music from around the world with Spotify Music Map

If you’re looking for more offbeat music to listen to or are just curious about what others listen to on the other side of the world, Spotify has created a music map to help you do just that. There are over 1,000 cities to check out around the world and you’ll be redirected to a playlist that’s specific or “distinctive” as they put it to that region or city. These playlists don’t necessarily mean the tracks get the most play, it’s more that those tracks are less likely to be heard in other places. Spotify updates the music on the map twice a month so you can keep checking it out for new stuff.

Prince pulls music from streaming sites Spotify and Rdio

Prince has had this love-hate relationship with the Internet and its services. He seems to empathize and agree with Taylor Swift’s criticism of freemium streaming services. So, what does he do? He pulls his music catalogue from the likes of Spotify and Rdio. If you want to hear his music online, right now you can see it on Tidal, SoundCloud, Deezer, and Google Play. There’s no word yet if Google plans to pull out his catalogue. We’re not sure if he’s coming to Apple Music. But for now, you’ll have a limited number of services to gain access to his funk-heavy tunes.

Spotify user creates playlist for most of Beats 1 music

Spotify user Peter Bowles is taking on a rather tedious role. He’s recreating most of the music being played on Apples new radio streaming service and putting them into a Spotify playlist. It was inevitable that this would happen. Now, if you just want to listen to the tunes being played on Beats 1, you can check it out. But yes, you won’t be hearing Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie Adenuga on this playlist. You also obviously won’t be hearing Taylor Swift’s songs and even the new Pharrell song (which Bowles replaced with “Happy” instead). We’re not sure how long they’re going to keep this up. But this’ll help you see what direction the new radio service is going in with playlists like these. Of course, if you want to check it out through Apple, they've released the playlist curated by Zane Lowe already.
