Fitbit Inspire 2 wearable gets Tile tracking

Source: Fitbit & Tile

A new partnership between Fitbit and Tile will now let users of the Fitbit Inspire 2 find their wearable if it gets misplaced. According to the companies' statement, the free update rollout started on Monday. To gain access to this feature, you'll need to update your Inspire 2's software via the Fitbit app. This update will bring Bluetooth tracking. You will then have to download and activate the Tile app. Once that is enabled, you can then find your misplaced wearable using its most recent location or via Tile's global crowdsourced network. You can also then use your Inspire 2 to ring your phone, even when it's silent.

Fitbit Inspire 2 users can also sign up for Tile Premium to receive Smart Alerts and other premium content for US$2.99 (CA$3.75) per month or US$29.99 (CA$37.61) annually. Smart Alerts can proactively notify you if you're about to leave your Inspire 2 behind when you're leaving your house.

Tile Smart Alerts will let you know if you've left an object behind

Tile's Bluetooth trackers are designed to help you locate lost products. But the company looks to expand that feature further by reintroducing "Smart Alerts." Currently in beta, Smart Alerts will automatically let you know when you've left behind an item with a tracker for five minutes. You can set "safe zones," so it doesn't alert you when, for example, you leave your purse with the Tile tracker at home.

You will, however, need to pay to get the feature. Smart Alerts beta requires the $34.99 a year subscription fee. But if you're forgetful enough, this expense might be worth it. Tile will be pushing out the beta in December.

Tile trackers now support Google Assistant

Google Assistant now works with your Tile tracker. You can now link the Bluetooth gadget through the Google Home app, where you can set up Voice Match in Assistant and ask the voice helper to locate the trackers for you. But instead of adding a prefix like "Ask Tile" every time, using a simple sentence would work. You can tell Assistant to ring your keys, bag, or any item attached to your TILE device. It will work on any Assistant-capable device. But for the initial setup, you will require you to have the Tile app installed on your Android or iOS device.

Lost and found with new TILE devices and features

The average person spends 10 to 15 minutes a day looking for stuff. Keys, wallets, and phones are ones that immediately come to mind.Over a course of lifetime that adds up to a year’s worth of time spent searching for everyday items.  It’s a universal problem that we all can relate to. When TILE, the small finding device was introduced a few years ago, I attached one to my keys and gave one to my son for his keys. It proved to come in handy when he misplaced his house keys and activated the TILE to locate thema kilometre away at a friend’s house in a backpack.

Since then, TILE has become an essential device to my daily life and beyond. Just think about travel. According to Sita, an international IT provider to the travel industry that monitors luggage handling, there were approximately 24.8 million pieces of luggage that went astray in 2018. TILE would be useful in helping to locate these lost items. We can also talk endlessly about the aging demographic as well as the kids who are constantly misplacing items including things that are irreplaceable and much loved.
