OPPO Zero-Power Tag prototype won't need AirTag-style batteries

Photo: OPPO

OPPO's AirTag-like device won't need batteries like Apple's tracker. The OPPO Zero-Power Tag is the first gadget from OPPO's Zero-power Communication Technology, which it detailed in a white paper earlier this year. The tech uses RF signal harvesting and backscattering to power itself with a computer that needs minimal energy. And so, it won't need a battery to function. Samsung tipped to launch Tile-like tracker

Samsung might have a new smart tracker in the works that's reminiscent of Tile's tracker. Called the Galaxy Smart Tag with a model number EI-T5300, it was spotted being certified by the Indonesian Telecom Certification. Samsung last launched an LTE-enabled tracker under its SmartThings branding around two years ago.

SamMobile speculates that this new device might feature more connectivity features like Ultra-Wideband, LTE, and GPS since the last tracker only had LTE and GPS. It will be a useful piece of tech if Samsung plans to launch the device. And since it's being certified, we might see it soon. Will you consider getting one?

Review: Tile Pro Sport smart tracker

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

As someone who often misplaces my car and house keys as well as my smartphone, the ability to quickly find these specially when I'm running late for a meeting is priceless. I've tried some bluetooth trackers in the past, but found them to be kludgy and hard to use. This was because the hardware wasn't durable enough or the apps were lacking in functionality.

The Tile system has always intrigued me and I immediately put the Tile Pro Sport to good use the day I got my review unit. I was cleaning my apartment and moving boxes and misplaced my house keys just as I needed to rush out for some errands. Usually it would take a good 10-15 minutes for me to retrace my steps and find my keys but thanks to the Tile app, I was able to trigger the alarm and quickly find my keys (they were under my cat) by following the melodic alert sound.

TomTom launches Spark fitness wearable with music, GPS and 24/7 tracking

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Toronto - TomTom launched its 4th generation fitness wearable in North America today with an event in downtown Toronto. The TomTom Spark is the latest sports and fitness tracker since TomTom collaborated with Nike + Sportwatch GPS years ago before the deluge of fitness trackers hit the market.

While it can be paired with a smartphone or a PC for tracking stats, the strength of the TomTom Spark is that it can run fully independent of wired and cumbersome smartphones. Runners, for example, can use the Spark to measure their runs via GPS, track their heart rate with the built-in heart rate monitor and play up to 500 songs streamed to a Bluetooth headset.
