Nokia Lumia 900 to get software update tomorrow

Nokia Lumia 900 owners on Rogers will be getting a surprise tomorrow in the form of a software update to the flagship Windows Phone. This isn't the promised Windows Phone 7.8 update that will bring some system-wide enhancements to all Lumia smartphones but a general Lumia 900 software update. LG Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Sony Xperia Arc S and Mini Pro denied Android upgrades

Proving once again that there are no guaranteed OS upgrades with certain Android smartphone manufacturers. LG and Sony have both recently indicated that certain recent models will not be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean updates.

In LG's case, it is the Optimus Black and Optimus 2X which are stuck in Gingerbread-land. LG Canada broke the sad news on Twitter recently stating, “The Optimus Black will not be receiving the ICS upgrade” LG Canada said through the popular social network.  LG sent a similar message regarding the Optimus 2X which was expected to get the software updates.

Apple releases iOS 5.1.1 update with enhanced HDR, AirPlay and Safari fixes

Plug in your iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches and update your software, iOS 5.1 is out. According to Apple the update brings with it the following fixes.

This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including: 

- Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut 
- Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks 
- Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances 
- Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List 
- Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase

Windows Phone 7 Mango update coming in Fall with new handset makers and boatload of features

At the Windows Phone VIP preview today, Microsoft revealed a number of new handset makers building Windows Phone 7 devices and highlighted some of the newer features coming to their smartphone OS though the new Mango revision.
