Future WhatsApp update lets you send photos, videos in 'best quality'

Photo by Dimitri Karastelev on Unsplash

WhatsApp will be giving you more control over how much compression is applied to images and videos you send over its app. The company is testing this feature on its Android app, giving three quality options—Auto, Best quality, and Data saver. So, if you're worried about data caps or internet speeds, you can send a more compressed file. But if you want to send the highest possible quality that you can, there will be that option, too.

WhatsApp hasn't mentioned when this feature will officially launch. And the test is currently available on Android but not on iOS.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been working on revamping its voice messages feature. Like on Instagram, the chat app plans to show real-time waveforms while you're recording a voice message. And it will give you the option to stop recording and listen to what you plan to send, an option that isn't currently available on WhatsApp.

The company is testing it out for iOS and Android, but it hasn't been made public yet. But WABetaInfo got their hands on a demo, which you can check out here. Another feature users can look forward to in the future is multi-device support, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

WhatsApp would hardly work for users who don't accept new privacy policy

WhatsApp recently introduced new privacy policies for users, which included new terms that ensure it will share data with Facebook as a condition of its use. It has caused an uproar among users that forced WhatsApp to delay its release. But now, the Facebook-owned messaging service will disable the app's functionalities that will basically render it useless for those who refuse to accept the new privacy policy.

Previously, WhatsApp said it wouldn't delete or deactivate accounts of those who don't accept the new terms. And while that remains true, the messaging service won't be useful.

WhatsApp for iOS introduces a new review tool for voice messages

WhatsApp is currently working on a review tool for voice messages. WABetaInfo discovered the feature, but it isn't available for either beta testers or the public yet. But according to the info the site unearthed, it will allow you to listen to the audio message you recorded before sending it. According to WABetainfo, "this new feature (currently under development) will add a new Review button that you can easily tap to listen to the voice message." After tapping Review, you get the option of sending the message or discarding it.

At the moment, it's tricky to review audio messages, sometimes requiring you to record your audio on another app while you record it on WhatsApp to check for any issues.
