Canada Soccer engulfed in drone spying scandal, coach suspended

The Canadian women’s soccer team is facing a major scandal after instances of drone spying on rival New Zealand. The latest incident, involving a drone hovering over a New Zealand practice session on Monday, led to the suspension of head coach Bev Priestman.

Investigations revealed that the drone operator was a "non-accredited" member of the Canadian team's staff. Moreover, it was discovered that a similar incident occurred during a New Zealand practice on July 19. As a result, two additional staff members—Joseph Lombardi, an “unaccredited analyst with Canada Soccer,” and Jasmine Mander, an assistant coach—were sent home.

CrowdStrike restores most systems after massive outage

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz announced today that 97% of sensors are back online following last week's widespread outage. In a LinkedIn post, Kurtz acknowledged that the company's work is not yet finished and reiterated their commitment to fully restoring all affected systems.

Yesterday, CrowdStrike released a comprehensive report detailing the software update that caused a crash affecting 8.5 million Windows machines. The report also outlines steps the company plans to take to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Spotify HiFi: A long-awaited saga nears its end?

After over three years of anticipation, Spotify's promised high-quality audio tier, HiFi, is finally taking shape. Initially touted as a standalone premium service, it's now evolving into a deluxe add-on to the existing Premium subscription. This strategic shift comes as Spotify attempts to catch up with competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music, who have already offered lossless audio as a standard feature.

CEO Daniel Ek confirmed the development during Spotify's earnings call, describing the upcoming tier as "a deluxe version of Spotify that has all of the benefits that the normal Spotify version has, but a lot more control, a lot higher quality across the board." It's expected to cost around US$17-US$18 per month, offering lossless audio, enhanced library management, AI-powered playlists, headphone optimization, and other unspecified features.
