This exorbitant Bang & Olufsen TV has moving mechanical ‘wing speakers’

Who says only phones can fold? Bang & Olufsen’s newest premium TV decides it wants in on the folding action. The Beovision Harmony TV has mechanical, rotating panel speakers that unfold like butterfly wings when you turn it on. It follows in the footsteps of the Samsung Frame TV and LG rollable OLED TV in making these television as part of a room’s design. While these two try to hide the TV part when not in use, you can’t exactly mask the Beovision Harmony TV. There is an element of drama to it still. The TV panel, which uses LG’s 77-inch C9 OLED screen, is partially hidden by the folding speakers when it isn’t in use. Turn the TV on and the screen lifts and the speakers fan out and down similar to a butterfly opening its wings.

As expected, you have a lot of tech infused in the speakers of this TV. There’s a three-channel, fully active DSP-based sound system and a 7.1 surround sound decoder. The speakers have alternating bands of oak and aluminum in the front, which is said to “maximize acoustic performance.” It can also connect up to eight Beolab speakers, including the Beolab 18, Beolab 50, and Beolab 90.

The TV integrates with streaming services like TuneIn and Deezer. It supports Apple AirPlay 2 and comes with Chromecast built-in as well as Bluetooth support. Using LG’s webOS 4.5 platform, you have access to services like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube.

Is this TV a necessity? No. Is it cool to look at? Definitely. If the visual aspect of it appeals to you and you have TONS of money, the B&O Beovision Harmony comes with a very cool price tag of 18,500 euros (around CA$27,700). It’s set to hit B&O stores in October 2019 and comes in oak wood and aluminum or gray two town fabric and aluminum. It can be mounted or placed on the floor.
