Sony plans to establish Sony Mobility Inc. in the spring for EV plans

Source: Sony

Sony uses this year's CES to share more details about its plans to enter the electric vehicle market by showing off a new version of its prototype. The Sony Vision-S 02 gets the original's EV and cloud platforms, but now it's in a seven-seater SUV.

While the vehicle is still a concept, Sony has ambitions to enter the electric vehicle market, starting with establishing Sony Mobility Inc. this spring and exploring its entry into the segment. Sony hasn't shared what steps it'll take to make this happen.

But if you want to learn about the Vision-S 2, the electric SUV has sensors on the body, including CMOS image and LiDAR sensors, for its driver assistance system. Sony says it's conducting tests in Europe for its plans to release a Level 2+ driver assistance technology on public roads. The car has Time-of-Flight sensors inside for driver authentication and supporting intuitive gesture and voice commands. It'll have 5G connectivity to allow for over-the-air updates and remote operation, which Sony is working on with its partners.
