Meta’s Threads app gets new features but loses users
Meta has updated its Threads app with some new features and improvements based on user feedback. The app, which launched in early July, is a social network that competes with Twitter, aka X.
One of the main updates is a Following feed that shows posts from the accounts you follow in chronological order. This was a highly requested feature, as Threads only had a For You Feed that mixed posts from followed and random accounts. Other updates include a translation feature, a follow button, new ways to filter notifications, and a faster way to approve new followers.
However, Threads is facing a challenge in retaining its users and keeping them engaged. The app had a record-breaking start, but since then, it has seen a sharp decline in user activity. According to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, as reported by Forbes, the number of daily active users has dropped by 70%, and the average daily time spent on the app has also decreased significantly.
Some possible reasons for this drop are the lack of features and functionality on Threads compared to Twitter/X, the saturation of social networks in the market, and the absence of integration with other websites. Threads will have to address these issues if it wants to compete with other social networks for attention.
