Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Series: OLED Screens, IP68 rating, and more
Samsung has just unveiled its latest flagship Android tablets: the Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra. These new devices are the successors of the Tab S8 series that launched in 2022, and they offer similar designs and features. However, they also have some improvements and upgrades that make them more appealing and competitive in the tablet market.
One of the main enhancements is the use of OLED screens across the entire Tab S9 lineup, which provide better contrast, colours, and brightness than LCD screens. The OLED screens also support a 120Hz refresh rate, which enables smoother scrolling, gaming, and drawing with the included S Pen.
The GalaxyTab S9 tablets come in three different sizes: 11 inches for the base model, 12.4 inches for the Plus model, and a massive 14.6 inches for the Ultra model. All of them have a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is ideal for watching videos and multitasking in landscape mode, but less optimal for reading and browsing in portrait mode.
Another notable feature is the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, which is a first for Samsung’s tablets and a rarity for tablets in general.
All three Android 13 tablets run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, with the S9 coming with 8GB of RAM, the S9 Plus with 12GB, and the S9 Ultra with 16GB. The Galaxy Tab S9 gets 128GB or 256GB of storage, the Plus has 256GB or 512GB options, and the Ultra can have up to 1TB of onboard space. These tablets can still support expansion via microSD cards. Only the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus will have 5G connectivity. But it looks like only the Wi-Fi versions will be available in Canada.
As for battery capacities, the Galaxy Tab S9 has an 8,400mAh battery, the S9+ gets a 10,090mAh battery, and the S9 Ultra has an 11,200mAh.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series still get the S Pen included in the box, but you won't get a charging brick. They sport quad-speaker systems that are 20% larger than before and in-screen fingerprint scanners. There is also an optional S Pen Creator Edition that offers a larger stylus with a textured grip and wider angle. You get the option to swap out between a softer or a firmer tip.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series gets a starting price of CAD 1,099 for the S9, CAD 1,349.99 for the S9+, and CAD 1,599.99 for the Ultra. The tablets are now available for pre-order and launch in-store on August 11. You can get them in Beige or Graphite.
