Meta’s Threads app loses over 50% of users in weeks
Meta’s new social media app Threads has lost more than half of its 100 million users in a matter of weeks, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The app, which competes with Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, had a record-breaking launch but failed to retain its users.
Zuckerberg said in an internal town hall meeting that the drop was “normal” and that he was hopeful of improving retention by adding more features to the app. One of the features is to ensure Instagram users see important Threads.
Online traffic data from the online traffic service SimilarWeb showed that Threads’ daily visits dropped from 49 million to 23.6 million within a week of its launch. The app’s audience is only about a fifth of X, which remains one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.
