Sonos weighs old app revival
Sonos has been grappling with the issues surrounding the redesigned app it launched in April. The buggy, incomplete app was met with widespread criticism and customer dissatisfaction. Despite the company's efforts to address the issues, the app continues to cause frustration for users.
In an attempt to alleviate the situation, Sonos leadership is reportedly considering a return to its previous "S2" app. This move would provide a temporary solution for users while the company works to resolve the problems with the newer app.
The decision to explore this option comes amidst other challenges facing Sonos. The company just announced layoffs of 100 employees, and CEO Patrick Spence has revealed that fixing the app could cost between US$20 and US$30 million (around CA$26 million and CA$40 million).
The app's shortcomings have had a ripple effect on Sonos' business, delaying the launch of two new products and overshadowing the release of its Ace over-ear headphones. While the company remains hopeful about releasing an updated Arc soundbar in October, the future of the app remains uncertain.
