Samsung Canada announces Galaxy Ring availability

Photo: Samsung

After its global launch in July, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is finally coming to Canada. It will hit the Samsung Experience Stores in the country starting October 3. You can visit the nearest brick-and-mortar store for a hands-on experience with the new smart ring. You can also order the Galaxy Ring through samsung.com/ca and at participating authorized Canadian retailers.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring costs $549.99, and the sizing kit is sold separately for $14.99. It's one of the more expensive smart rings available, but the upside is it doesn't come with a subscription to use the wearable.

Ray-Ban Metas get clear frames and transition lenses

Photo: Meta

Aside from introducing software updates, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are also getting a new design and transition lenses from EssilorLuxottica. Meta released the new limited-edition clear frames that remind us of an old-school Game Boy Color. There will only be 7,500 units of this special edition pair, so these might be gone by the time you read this.

Now, if you've been waiting for transition lenses for the Ray-Ban Metas, the UltraTransitions GEN S lenses allow you to adapt quickly to different light conditions. You can check those out here.

As usual, you start a conversation by saying "Hey Meta." From there, you can just continue asking follow-up questions without repeating the wake word. Plus, you no longer need to say "look and" to ask Meta AI about the object you're looking at.

You can now ask your Ray-Ban Metas to remind you about things, which you can later see on your phone. Examples Meta gave include remembering where you parked your car and setting alerts to message or call someone at a specific time.

Orion is Meta's 'most advanced' AR glasses

Photo: Meta

One of Meta's ambitious hardware projects involves a pair of glasses. The company announced five years ago it was working on developing a pair of augmented reality frames. They wanted to bridge the physical and virtual worlds with what it claims is the "most advanced pair of AR glasses ever made." And today, they gave us a glimpse at the Orion prototype.

These chunky glasses resemble their Ray-Ban Metas, adding a digital display to these smart glasses. And they offer the widest field of view for AR glasses at the moment at 70 degrees.
