Google Play Editions of HTC One tipped to get Android L update next week

Good news for users of the Google Play Editions of the HTC One. You’ll be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update as early as next week, according to HTC’s Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi. Versi didn’t specify though if the HTC One M8 or the One M7 will be getting the update at the same time or separately. Once the roll out starts, the HTC One GPE will be one of the few handsets to carry the latest Android build. They’ll be joining the ranks of the Nexus devices, Motorola Moto X and Moto G, and LG G3.

Review: Google Nexus 9

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The Nexus 9 is an intriguing entry into the tablet space. By making it the first device to feature the latest, greatest Android Lollipop OS, Google seems to be making a statement about its renewed commitment to tablet users and this is a good thing.

The Nexus 9 is built by HTC, which hasn’t had great success with tablets and which hasn’t made a new tablet since 2011, but who was compliant enough to take the design language of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 and incorporate some of its own features (i.e. BoomSound speakers) into the mix.

Battery drain bug reportedly the cause for delay of Nexus 5's Lollipop update

If you've been wondering why your Nexus 5 didn't get the Android 5.0 release at the same time as the Nexus 9, there are reports that a battery draining bug caused handsets to drain after a few hours of use. Testers claim battery only lasts three to four hours for their Nexus 5 devices and Wi-Fi has to be turned off to remedy the situation.

Google seems to have addressed this issue and rolled out a new build of Lollipop to the testers that should improve battery life (which is actually what Android Lollipop promises to bring to devices). If there aren't anymore issues that surface, perhaps the November 12 release rumours might come true.

Release of Android Lollipop to Nexus devices gets delayed

Nexus users have been tipped that they would be getting their updates for Android 5.0 Lollipop any day now. However, Android Police reports the over-the-air update has been delayed due to bug issues. Those using Nexus 9 and Nexus Player already have the builds shared but those with a Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10 have to wait until November 12. Google hasn’t really released a specific timeline for the OTA update but they have said on Twitter to Nexus 4 and 5 users that it will be arriving in the coming weeks.
