Control your Android Wear or Pebble Time smartwatch with Aria clip-on

If you find your hands busy with other things or are just feeling a tad too lazy to swipe at your smartwatches’ screen, the Kickstarter project Aria is here to help. The clip-on accessory brings finger gesture functionality to your smartwatch. It clips to the underside of your Android Wear or Pebble Time watch and it’ll let you navigate these wearables with gestures like tapping, flicking your fingers, and opening and closing your hands. You can configure the gestures with the companion app.

Aria makes use of Bluetooth Low Energy and it doesn’t require a battery on its own. The Kickstarter campaign should be up in the coming weeks. It was built specifically for Android developers so it’ll retail for US$169, while the Pebble Time version will only need you to pledge at least $69.

Shazam comes to Android Wear

Great news for Android Wear users who use Shazam. The app is now optimized to work with your wearable devices. Now, you can also see who’s playing with just two taps. These songs will be added to your My Shazam and My Shazam Tracks playlists. It can even display lyrics right from your wrist. And since the app has been optimized for Android Lollipop, you’ll see the Material Design elements implemented here.

Android Wear update adds important features, including Wi-Fi support

Android Wear just received an important update. Google's wearable platform can now support Wi-Fi. This means if your Wi-Fi-ready Android Wear watch is connected to a Wi-Fi data and your phone has data connection on (whether it's on you or not), you'll still be able to send messages, get notifications, and use your apps. The platform also extends always-on feature for apps as well so these can stay visible for as long as you need them to.

Other new features include emoji support, wrist flick support to go through stream of notifications and news, and one-tap access to apps and contacts. The update will be coming to all Android Wear watches in the coming weeks, starting with the LG Watch Urbane.
