iPhone Music Recognition feature now syncs history with the Shazam app

You don't need to have the Shazam app installed on your iPhone for this new feature to work. Apple's Music Recognition feature in the iPhone Control Center can now sync with version 15.14 of the Shazam app. It can now also sync across devices using the same Apple ID. This option has begun rolling out to iPhones running on iOS 15. If you have this feature set up, you can press and hold on the Music Recognition button in the Control Center to see the songs you've "Shazam'd" on your phone.

Source: Shazam

If you want to find out when and where a musician is playing their next show, Shazam will make it easier to find that out. The music discovery app gets a new feature to show you information and tickets on sale for upcoming shows. This new suite of features won't just show you the date, time, and location. It will offer other extra tour info and even let you share show details or add the event to your calendar. Shazam uses data from Bandsintown, an event recommendation and artist discovery platform that serves over 68 million music fans and 560,000 artists, managers, labels, and booking agents.

Shazam gives away five free months of Apple Music to new subscribers

Source: icybbams/Twitter

Apple-owned music discovery app Shazam is once again offering potential subscribers free access to Apple Music. Unlike last year's six-month free offer, this time, Shazam and Apple Music are giving away five free months for new users. You will be eligible for the promo if you haven't used the streaming service before.

All you need to do is download Shazam on your iPhone or iPad (if you haven't yet) and then identify a song by tapping on the Shazam icon within the app. Once it identifies the track, there will be an option to play the song on Apple Music. Tap that and a banner letting you know you'll get an extra two-month subscription to Apple Music if you redeem the offer. (Apple Music's trial period is valid for three months.)

9to5Mac reports that some users also spotted a banner for the offer in Shazam's settings. The deal isn't available in a lot of countries. According to Shazam's App Store page, it's available in countries like the United States, Australia, Canada, and more until January 17, 2021.

So, if you're interested in checking out Apple Music, this is the best deal available yet.

Integrated Shazam control comes to new iOS 14.2 beta

It's been two years since Apple acquired Shazam, and now it's putting its technology to use. The latest version of iOS 14.2 beta adds Shazam's Music Recognition in the Control Center panel. When the feature is enabled, it can recognize the audio playing on internal or external audio sources. For example, it can identify a song playing through your AirPods—a feature the Android version got last year.

If you're running the beta, you should see the Shazam button in the Control Center already. All you need to do is press on the button. It isn't clear why it took Apple this long to integrate the feature better late than never, we guess.
