Apple TV app comes to Amazon Fire TV devices

Similar to the rollout happening on Roku devices and ahead of the launch of Apple's streaming service, Amazon announced that the Apple TV app is coming to the second-generation Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K. Those with the Fire TV Basic edition also get the app today. According to Amazon's blog post, those who own a Fire TV Cube (either first- or second-generation), Fire TV (third-generation pendant design), and Toshiba and Insignia Fire TV Edition smart TVs will be getting the update soon.

The Apple TV app will let you watch the content you've rented from Apple in the past, but, more importantly, it will give you access to Apple TV+ streaming service, which will launch in Canada on November 1st. The service costs $5.99 a month.

Apple TV app shows up on Roku devices ahead of Apple TV+ streaming service launch

We're weeks away from the launch of Apple's streaming service, and, just in time for that, Roku devices are getting the Apple TV app. This launch will be the first time the app will be introduced to third-party products. Right now, it only lets you access things like their iTunes video library as well as subscribe to Apple TV channels directly from Roku devices. But starting November 1st, this app will also be the home to the Apple TV+ streaming service, which features the company's original programming.

The new app will require you to authenticate your identity by singing in with your Apple ID. Once you've done so, this will give you access to things like purchased content, personalized recommendations, the ability to buy and rent from iTunes, as well as subscribe to paid channels (like HBO, Showtime, etc.). The Apple TV app will come to most Roku streaming devices. You can check out the full list here

Apple launches its new TV app on iOS, Apple TV, and Samsung smart TVs

Apple’s revamped TV app is now rolling out to over 100 countries for iOS users, Apple TV users, and select Samsung smart TVs. This brings the Apple TV channels, which was introduced back in March, and a new design, and personalized recommendations, among other features. Through iTunes, you will get access to over 100,000 TV sows and movies. The app will let you directly sign up in the app for popular video services (or what Apple calls channels) and access channels like Showtime, HBO, EPIX, MTV Hits, and Starz. By signing up through Apple TV, you can manage these services collectively within your account. The Apple TV app also offers Family Sharing for up to six family members and support for offline downloads to watch content offline.

For Samsung TV owners that have 2019 TVs and some 2018 models, the firmware update will come your way. And according to Samsung executives, the Apple TV app will work “seamlessly” with Bixby.

Apple launches beta program for Apple TV app in the US

Earlier this week, Apple launched the updated version of its Apple TV app (among other new features). Now, the said app is available officially through the company’s beta program through public beta versions iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3. This version brings the new Apple TV channels feature, which lets you subscribe directly to your favorite premium channels. The beta version supports Showtime, Starz, The Smithsonian Channel, and Tastemade. There is also a new For You section that recommends you things to watch based on your watch history. What’s missing at the moment is the new ad-free Apple TV+ streaming service, which houses the company’s original content. We’re expected to hear more about that in the fall.
