ASUS partners with ‘PUBG’ publisher Tencent Games for new ROG Phone

It isn’t exactly a secret that ASUS is working on another ROG Phone, but it’s been revealed on Chinese social media site Weibo that the company is partnering with Tencent for the new gaming smartphone. Tencent’s gaming division is a video game publishing giant from China and it has published games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Ring of Elysium, and League of Legends. The partnership means Tencent will help optimize its games and the gaming experience on the second-generation ROG Phone.

The phone is expected to launch in China sometime in July. Some of the rumoured specs of the ROG Phone 2 include a 120Hz display, updated Snapdragon processor, and most likely, more RAM.

The ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo is a creator’s dream machine

In the past few months, it felt like the only innovation happened in the smartphone space. Or perhaps we can attribute that to the breakneck speed that industry is taking. But the mobile phone space isn’t the only industry pushing forward. ASUS at Computex 2019 in Taiwan is making its own moves in the laptop space. And it’s brought its best tech into its latest flagship model—the ZenBook Pro Duo.

At last year’s Computex, ASUS showed off the ZenBook Pro, a laptop that featured a secondary screen on the touchpad. ASUS called this the ScreenPad. The Taiwanese company builds on this idea with the ZenBook Pro Duo. It supersizes the idea and places the ScreenPad Plus right underneath the display, giving you an extra 14-inch full-width 4K secondary screen.

Asus flips out (and up) with the ZenFone 6

The Verge

In the race to introduce almost bezel-less screens on smartphones, manufacturers have to get a bit creative with placement of the front camera. We’ve seen different interpretations of the pop-up front camera, OnePlus being the latest one to join the fray. Asus decides to forge its own path with the latest addition to the ZenFone line. The ZenFone 6 has a 6.4-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ notch-free display thanks to its rear camera that flips out and up to serve as your selfie shooter. This means the quality of your photos will remain the same, whether you shoot landscape, other people, your dogs, or yourself.

CES 2019: ASUS ROG Mothership reimagines the desktop replacement laptop

If we bulked up and branded the Microsoft Surface Pro as a gaming device, the ASUS Republic of Gamers Mothership is what it’s going to look like. There’s no denying the visual impact of this desktop replacement laptop. The screen and keyboard can come apart and make it seem like some sort of really bulky laptop but smaller all-in-one PC. The 17.3-inch 144Hz G-Sync screen stands on its own in a similar way as the Nintendo Switch does and it’s important because ASUS says this helps facilitate the flow of “more air into its advanced cooling system.” ASUS pairs this with powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and an Intel Core i9-8950HK processor.

ASUS opted to try out this design because based on its observation and research gamers liked to connect external keyboards to existing laptops and play games. According to their study, “gamers prefer their keyboards off to the side and at an angle.” Cooling is the other important consideration. ASUS wanted this beast of a laptop to be somewhat portable and to do that, the company opted out of liquid-cooling. Having an upright design increases the effectiveness of its air-cooling system. There’s no word on price and availability just yet but don’t expect this to be a cheap device.
