ASUS brings AI to dual-display Project Precog concept

Aside from unveiling the much-hyped ROG Phone, ASUS had one more surprise up its sleeve. During its ZenBook launch at Computex 2018, the Taiwanese company teased a laptop concept it’s planning to release in the coming year. Called Project Precog, this concept is the first dual-screen laptop from the brand and has what the brand says are artificial intelligence-related features. It will supposedly be able to do things like optimize your battery charging depending on the time of day, provide suggestions when you’re editing things like Excel documents, among other things.

ASUS ROG outs its first gaming smartphone

ASUS’s gaming brand Republic of Gamers just unveiled its first-ever gaming smartphone, taking on the likes of Razer and heating up this new niche segment. It seems like a no-brainer that the Taiwanese company set out to create its own gaming phone but what took them this long? According to ASUS, they wanted to make sure they weren’t just building a smartphone that was simply called a gaming phone but didn’t have any unique features to truly make it a gaming phone. What they set out to do with the ROG Phone is provide four key things: lag-free performance, efficient cooling, blur-free and stunning visuals, and gaming-centric handling.

ASUS to bring the ZenFone 5 Lite to the US in late July

If you’ve been eyeing ASUS’ quad-camera-toting ZenFone 5 Lite, you might need to cross over to the US to score one. The phone, which will be called the ZenFone 5Q is arriving at the end of July for US$300 (around CA$390). The phone itself features a 6-inch 1,080 x 2,160 resolution display (sans notch) and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, up to 4GB/64GB memory and storage options, and four camera setup. You get a 16-megapixel main shooter with 80-degree f/2.2 lens and a 20-megapixel 85.5-degree front camera. Both come with secondary 120-degree wide-angle cameras. The phone is available through Amazon US.

ASUS goes all out with MWC launch, introduces new ZenFone 5 line

Taiwanese tech company ASUS does what it’s been doing in recent years, releasing multiple variants of its smartphone line to cater to specific user needs. This time around the new ZenFone 5 line gets three versions: the ZenFone 5Z, ZenFone 5, and ZenFone 5 Lite.

The first two share its physical characteristics with a 6.2-inch 19:9 LCD displays with 90% percent screen-to-body ratio, which makes it possible to fit all that phone into the body of a standard 5.5-inch phone. But the phones also share a look with another popular device from an even bigger brand in smartphones. Yes, you see it has a notch and ASUS acknowledges somewhat that they’ve taken the design cue from Apple.

“Some people will say it’s copying Apple,” said Marcel Campos, Asus’ global head of marketing, “but we cannot get away from what users want. You have to follow the trends.”
