Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen passes away at 65

Paul Allen, founder of Microsoft and technology innovator, philantrophist and sports team owner passed away today at age 65 from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Allen co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with Bill Gates and is credited for having named the company. Hel later left Microsoft because of serious illness but recovered. Allen went on to become a billionaire investor, famously owning teams like the Portland Trailblazers, the Seatle Seahawks, The Seattle Sounders FC. He also made significant cultural investments and founded the Museum of Pop Culture. Allen has granted over $2 billion to philantrophic causes.

Sir Richard Branson announces Virgin Mobile’s RE*Generation expanded youth initiative

This week, Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Mobile hosted an exclusive live concert event with The Arkells in Toronto to announce a new initiative to help at-risk and homeless youth. The Virgin Mobile RE*Generation social initiative, which began in 2008, will be re-focusing on programs with partners that will help youth develop skills needed to get, and keep, jobs.

There are 225,000 Canadian youth who are not in school and not working. Virgin Mobile also mentioned that there are also about 35,000 are in emergency shelters and 6000 youth living on the street.
