Rolls-Royce’s concept is as futuristic as it gets

Rolls-Royce’s new concept is truly a vision. The 103EX vision vehicle highlights how the luxury car manufacturer interprets the self-driving technology. The car itself is 20 feet long and stands five feet tall. It has a two-person silk covered couch and a see-through glass display in the dashboard area where your steering wheel usually is. It has a roof canopy, has bespoke features, and promises to be almost soundless as Rolls-Royce says: “The only sound is the hushed beat of your own heart.” And, of course, the car comes with artificial intelligence in the form of Eleanor. You can watch the concept video above or get a 360-degree look of the car in this link. Rolls-Royce says they could make the 103EX available in the 2040s.

Video: Lenovo's Folio is a folding tablet concept

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

San Francisco- We've all seen folding and rolling OLED displays as early concepts for future technology. Lenovo showed off a complete and working tablet concept which it calls Folio. Running on a quad-core processor, the Folio can bend in half and also rearranges its user interface to fit the smaller form factor. It's a cool concept and one that extends the possibilities of the tablet/phablet form factor.

Self-driving concept car goes full-metal, nixes windows

Now here’s a self-driving car that truly looks like it belongs in the future. Designed by the European Institute of Design of Turin and the magazine Quattroruote, Shiwa (which means fold in Japanese) is an all-metal beauty. Unfortunately, if you’re claustrophobic, this might not be the car for you. It takes out the window and replase that with metal composite panels with an aluminum finish. What you get inside is an augmented reality lair filled with multimedia projected on the walls. Inside it feels more like a lounge instead of a car with the goal of bringing the passengers together. And as an Individual Identity Companion Vehicle, it’s meant to recognize is passengers and learn more about them so the car’s behavior suits the interests and habits of the passgener.

It’s powered by four electric motors, one of each placed in the wheels, turning this into an all-wheel drive EV. The design might look out of this world now but Shiwa’s designers foresee this vehicle or something like it landing on our streets by 2030.

Drivemode app turns your Android device into your car's dashboard

It makes sense that you can use your smartphone to navigate a lot of your car's features. It's basically a mobile PC at this point. And that's what Drivemode wanted to demonstrate with their new idea. CNET got to test the app to show it had to offer. Drivemode partnered with Honda for this demo. They took out the head unit of the CR-V and put in a dock for the Nexus 6.
