SlideShow: The Acura Precision Concept from the 2016 Detroit Auto Show

Acura's made a strong showing at this year's NAIAS, not just with the new NSX but with the Acura Precision Concept which is a swoopy, angular and bold statement that points towards a possible new design direction. One of the more attractive concepts unveiled here in Detroit, the Acura Precision looks like part spaceship, part sedan. Distinctive rear suicide doors complement the general ease of access and appearance of space plus the beefy rear and curvaceous lines toe the line between sedan and coupe. It is definitely a refreshing take and one that we hope will invitably creep into Acura's future design language.

CES 2016: VW's Budd-e concept is a futuristic EV minivan

Volkswagen just unveiled its BUDD-e concept vehicle which holds the promise of many future technologies including a hypothetical 373 miles of range and ability to charge to 80 percent of battery capacity in about 15 minutes, this doesn't represent any technology currently available to VW but is more a marker for what's to come in the future.

With a fully reconfigurable interior reminiscent of older camper microbuses, the Budd-e concept also features 12.3-inch curved screen in front of the driver that blends into a 13.3-inch display in the center console. It's good to see VW aspiring for an all-electric future in a vehicle that, while purely conceptual, could generate interest in pursuing and developing more widespread technology, safety and energy efficient solutions.

Airplane seat concept wants to make your next flight a comfy one

Unless you can afford the super duper deluxe flights offered by some airlines, airplane seats aren’t particularly comfortable, especially during long-haul flights. FactoryDesign has a solution in mind with its Twister Seat concept. Using the human body itself as an inspiration, the seat is constructed around a spine-and-rib-like skeletal structure that shifts is shape as you move in it. So, for example, you want to sleep on your side? The Twister Seat can accommodate you. Now, can someone bring this to our planes soon?

Aston Martin’s Rapide sedan gets an electric version

If you could afford the US$200,000 Aston Martin Rapide sedan, you might want to consider investing in the electric version of said vehicle. Aston Martin just unveiled the RapidE concept (capital “E” for emphasis on the electric part). It looks similar to the petrol-powered Rapide but it is purely electric. A big chunk of the engineering work done to this car was facilitated by Williams (you know, of F1 fame). It’s expected to be ready for production in two years. Thanks in part to investment by Chinese VC firm ChinaEquity, the production of this car is possible. If plans push through, this concept will be built at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire in the United Kingdom.
