Google Inbox-inspired April Fool's prank has potential real-world use

Pranks are abound today (even in the tech world) but there are some ideas we wished became actual products. One such item is the Google Inbox-inspired Smartbox. True to its name, this "smart mailbox" will sort through your physical mail and put them into folders. Notify you on your phone when new mail has arrived. It'll even deliver electric shocks for spam mail sent to you (much to the annoyance of your mail man).

The Smartbox has a touchscreen built into the side for when you want to check notifications and the like. You open the mailbox via a waving gesture. You can even detach the box from the pole and bring it with you. Yes, traditional mail can be portable, too. The Smartbox needs Inbox by Gmail to work. Now, someone get working on an actual interpretation of this!

Google pulls Sparrow email app from App Store

Google seems to be shaking off more of its extra weight with the latest app it has pulled from the Apple App Store for iOS and OS X. The Sparrow app was a Google acquisition and like most of its purchases, updates have stopped coming in for the app. Google hasn’t made any official statements about the app being pulled. But you can see this as Google working to push Inbox forward and see how contextual email will work. Have you been a user of Sparrow? What will you miss about the service?

Support of Yahoo, Outlook, IMAP accounts will come to latest Gmail Android app

Gmail is getting a major update pretty soon that doesn't just show off a new look but lets you receive non-Gmail emails right on your app. Gmail version 5.0 will support any IMAP or Exchange email accounts such as Yahoo and Outlook. It gets a Material Design makeover that introduces more colours into the interface and let you switch between accounts easily. The way messages are threaded seems to have taken its inspiration from the new Inbox app. The update should be rolling out soon but if you can't wait Android Police has an APK up. We added the link below.

Mailbox for iOS adds new language and Passbook support

Mailbox recently brought new features to the iOS email client to help you manage your email easier. The Dropbox-owned app now lets you send compatible attachments such as gift cards and tickets to Apple’s Passbook digital wallet. It now also supports 19 more languages and lets you mark messages as unread or spam, highlight important emails with stars, and print them out. And if you swipe to delete messages, these emails are now permanently deleted when you empty your trash. If you still don’t have Mailbox and you want to try it out, you can download the app from the Apple App Store.
