Art of Fusion: a stress-free day trip with new 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum

By Sonya Davidson

The summer has been spectacular, hasn’t it? It’s been filled with travels near and far for the past couple of months and more experiences to add to my personal bucket list. One of the most memorable day-trips out of the city was dubbed the #ArtOfFusion. Fusion to many of us means taking the best of two or more worlds. This trip was certainly the best of several realms from technology, art, and yes, food.

A recent outing with Ford Canada had me rediscovering the rich Canadiana landscape peppered with mindful moments in the new 2017 Fusion Energi Platinum. A full itinerary that catered to more lifestyle focused writers gave the opportunity to explore the vehicle in a more everyday approach. Going in with an open mind that suits the needs of everyday drivers was apparent since not much “selling” of the new vehicles happened on this day-trip. We were very much in a  “see for yourself” mode.

Huawei reveals its PC ambitions with the MateBook 12-inch hybrid

Don't look now but there's another Microsoft Surface clone coming to market and this one is from a very unexpected source. Huawei just took the wraps off its 12-inch MateBook Hybrid PC which features a tablet-first convertible that can emulate a notebook thanks to a kickstand and a slim keyboard case and yes, it also has a stylus accessory because it wouldn't be a very good Surface clone if it did not offer pen input. The 12-inch display weighs in with a 2160 by 1440 resolution and the keyboard/case/kickstand is included in the package.

At 1.4 pounds, the MateBook is one of the lightest such devices in terms of weight. CPUs range from Intel Core M3, M5 and M7 processors and storage goes from 128GB to 512GB, you can also get 4Gb or 8GB of RAM depending on the configuration.

Canadian availability and pricing is questionable at this time but we should hear more from Huawei in the coming weeks.

Ford to invest $4.5 billion, release 13 new Electrified Vehicles by 2020

On the way next year is a new Focus Electric, which features all-new DC fast-charge capability delivering an 80 percent charge in an estimated 30 minutes and projected 100-mile range - an estimated two hours faster than today's Focus Electric. (Graphic: Business Wire)With an industry-wide shift in focus to electrified and hybrid vehicles, Ford has announced its plans to invest in developing EV solutions and technologies in the US and Canada.

Ford is investing an additional $4.5 billion in electrified vehicle solutions by 2020 as well as changing how the company develops vehicle experiences for customers.

“For 70 years, market research has been done by asking people for their opinion. But Ford has always been fundamentally skeptical about that. Henry Ford used to say, ‘If I asked people what they wanted, they would have asked for a faster horse.’”

Ford is adding 13 new electrified vehicles to its portfolio by 2020, when more than 40 percent of the company’s global nameplates will come in electrified versions. This represents Ford’s largest-ever electrified vehicle investment in a five-year period.

Test Drive: 2016 Chevrolet Volt EV

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

On EV mode, the Volt accelerates smoothly and in a measured manner. if you really push down on the accelerator, you will hear an electronic whine which sounds like Iron Man’s repulsor glove charging up. Engine noise is near non-existent and, when pushed, the Volt accelerates like a turbocharged automatic sedan.

Scott, Quebec – GM Canada set up base last week at the luxurious La Cache de Maxime spa, vineyard and hotel in the Quebec countryside to give Canadian journalists the very first opportunity to test drive the new 2016 Chevy Volt Electric Vehicle.

With fall colours peaking, GM’s executive and PR team devised a two-leg drive along the picturesque provincial roads and highways which would be ideal for testing the Volt’s range, performance as well as ride and standard equipment. Journalists were paired up in twos and  given a chance to try both variants of the Chevy Volt.
