Motorola teases rollable smartphone concept

Motorola is dipping into the rollable smartphone market with a new concept. The phone starts out as a pocketable four inches high, and when you click on a button, this OLED panel expands to a more typical 6.5 inches. It takes another click to bring it back to its original form. The phone is usable at both sizes and the content on the screen adapts to the size.

Moto Razr 2022 launch gets rescheduled to August 11

Source: Motorola

A day after Samsung is expected to launch its new foldables, Motorola is gearing up to release the new version of its Razr flip smartphone. The debut of the Moto Razr 2022 was originally scheduled for August 1 in China. The brand's new flagship Moto X30 Pro was also expected to debut on the same day. Now, that launch is being rescheduled to August 11 at 2 AM ET. While we most likely won't hear about global availability, the event would at least give us more detail about the devices. The Moto Razr 2022 is rumoured to get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

'Motorola Razr 2' tipped to get a bigger screen

The next-generation Motorola Razr is expected to arrive in September. It's unofficially called the Razr 2, but we don't know much else about it. Display Supply Chain Consultants' (DSCC) CEO Ross Young claims the second-gen Motorola Razr will feature slightly bigger displays. The primary 6.7-inch screen will reportedly be 0.5-inch larger than the existing Razr. And the smaller secondary outer screen will also be larger diagonally, but he didn't say by how much. The existing Razr has a 2.7-inch secondary display.

Other rumoured specs of the Motorola Razr 2 include 5G support courtesy of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, Android 10, and a 48-megapixel primary camera + 20-megapixel selfie camera combo.

A Motorola Razr screen is peeling right on the fold

Raymond Wong/Input

There hasn't been a lot of good buzz around the Motorola Razr, and a new report shows a flaw in the foldable phone. Input's Raymond Wong reported the Motorola Razr's screen separating from the plastic laminate protecting the display right by the hinge, with a bubble forming between the screen and the laminate. Input has owned the unit for a little over a week.

Aside from being an eyesore, the bubble seems to be causing issues with the touchscreen. The display above the bubble still works, but the middle is "not the most responsive." It isn't clear how the issue happened. Wong said he didn't drop the phone or get it wet. He speculated that it could be because of temperature changes, from using it out in the cold and then back again inside his warm apartment. But we don't know if that could be the cause. Motorola hasn't responded to the story yet.
