SourceCode: Microsoft Office finally comes to Android smartphones

Microsoft Office is the one of the first software programs users install on their PCs and Macs. Since smartphones are the closest thing to pocket computers, there have been countless substitutes for Word, Excel and PowerPoint available for Android and iOS devices but most don't come close to the original, or fail to integrate seamlessly with the desktop and cloud version of Microsoft's bread and butter suite.

Microsoft Office is now available on Android for free if you have an existing Office 365 account but it is only for smartphones and not for tablets where it would be far more useful.

BB10 OS not coming to BlackBerry PlayBook

Despite earlier reports that the BlackBerry 10 OS, now running on the Z10 and Q10 smrtphones, would breathe new life into the PlayBook tablet, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has confirmed that the company will not pursue porting BB10 for the PlayBook. 

This is bad news for users of the 7-inch tablet who have been holding out for a feature refresh as well as a more unified experience across BlackBerry devices. The writing has been on the wall for the PlayBook after Heins said there was no future in tablets. The PlayBook was also a remant of RIM's 'old regime', brought to market in the dark days before Heins took over the reins of the troubled company.

Watch Microsoft's Build 2013 Conference on June 26

Microsoft is hosting Build 2013 in San Francisco this week, where the company will showcase how developers can create experiences on the Windows platform to engage consumers, empower employees, solve problems and drive companies. It will also unveil Windows 8.1, which will bring various fixes and user-requested functionality including the Start button.

As part of the conference, on Wednesday 26 June at approximately 12noon EST, Julie Larson-Green, CVP of Windows, and Antoine Leblond, CVP of Windows Program Management, will participate in the Day 1 keynote to discuss Windows 8.1 and highlight the additional opportunities for developers to design, build and market their Windows Store apps.  Tune in here to watch the keynote and learn more, and check The Windows Blog for more information throughout the event.

Kobo Arc reader updated to Android OS 4.1 "Jelly Bean"

Looks like Kobo is doing a better job than some Smartphone manufacturers in keeping up with the times. Kobo customers will now have an optimized user experience with Jelly Bean 4.1. The firmware will update to Kobo Arc customers when they next connect to Wi Fi. Hit jump for all the new features and refinements.
