Pixar's 'Turning Red' will premiere on Disney+ instead of in theatres

Instead of a theatrical release, Pixar's Turning Red will "premiere exclusively in homes worldwide," at least in countries where Disney+ is available, on March 11. Disney recently announced the change. You won't need to get Premier Access to watch the film. All Disney+ subscribers can watch the new Pixar animation.

Spider-Man: No Way Home may have broken box office records less than a month ago. But, as The Verge pointed out, a spike in COVID-19 cases brought about by the omicron variant and the lacklustre performance of other films could see some moves like Turning Red making streaming premieres again.

Pixar announces its newest original movie, ‘Onward’

Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios announced its upcoming feature-length film. Called Onward, it stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland (who teased the movie on his Instagram page), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer. It takes place in a “suburban fantasy,” populated by creatures like elves, centaurs, trolls, and the like. But there is no magic here, in its place we get machines. So, you’ll see things like elves using cellphones. And instead of these creatures being considered magical, unicorns are considered raccoon-like pests. The story will follow two teenage elf brothers (presumably voiced by Pratt and Holland) as they go on a quest to discover if there’s still magic left in the world. According to director Dan Scanlon (Monsters University), the film is inspired by his own relationship with his brother. Onward comes to theatres on March 6, 2020.

Apple Clips gets new Disney- and Pixar-inspired effects

Here’s another fruit from Apple’s partnership with Disney. The company’s video creation app for iOS, Clips, is bringing tons of graphic overlays and posters from some of your favorite Disney and Pixar characters. Version 1.1 of the app now has animated overlays of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck as well as your favorite Toy Story and Inside Out characters like Woody and Jessie, Joy, Fear, etc. Aside from the overlays, there are new Disney-designed posters that can work as title cards for your stories.

Aside from these, there are 10 new Apple-designed overlays and 12 posters with “dramatic graphics, beautifully rendered backgrounds, and customizable animated text.” Apple says they’ve also included some usability improvements to make it that much easier to turn video clips and photos into something fun.
