Microsoft enables support for mouse and keyboard for Xbox One, announces partnership with Razer

You’ve asked for it, you got it. Microsoft just announced that its adding keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One and select Xbox testers get to try this out in the coming weeks. Most wired and wireless USB keyboards will work with the Xbox One but it’ll be up to the developers to support this in their games. It will not be enabled by default as Jason Ronald, director of program management for Xbox, says the development team know their games the best and they would know what experience would work best to provide an “optimal and fair gaming experience” for its players. PC gamers tend to have a movement advantage over players with controllers especially in games like first-person shooters, this new feature might help level the playing field. Microsoft has been working with big and small studios on this new feature and needs feedback from its Xbox testers to make sure it’s as close to perfect when it officially launches later this year.

The company also announced a partnership with Razer to allow Xbox One users to use Razer hardware and use its Chroma lighting effects. Microsoft plans to release more details about this partnership during the Inside Xbox stream on November 10th.

Razer Phone 2 launch will be on October 10th

October is shaping up to be a busy month for phone launches. Razer just sent out invites for an event on October 10th in Hollywood. While Razer didn’t exactly put that they were launching the Razer Phone 2, you can see the boxy rectangular outline of the phone stamped on it and the words “FLAGSHIP // GAMING.” It’s rumoured that the Razer Phone 2 will keep the shape of the original device. As GSMArena points out, there’s a render from the other day that showed the date October 10 on the lockscreen. The event proper will start at 6:30 p.m. with a keynote from Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan but there will be early previews for “VIPs” ahead of the keynote.

Razer slashes US$300 off the Razer Phone

Looks like we might be getting the second iteration of the Razer Phone sooner instead of later. Razer is offering the first Razer Phone in the US at a sizeable discount. The original Black version of the smartphone is getting a US$300 discount. If you’re in the States or have someone there who can get the device for you. Head to the Razer Store, add the device to your cart, and then find the “PROMO CODE” section. Type in the word “WOOHOO” to see if the discount still stands. This cuts almost 43% from the original US$700 SRP of the Razer Phone when it first came out. Discounting a device by this much could only mean that Razer is making room for its new phone.
