Sony tipped to be going bezel-less for the smartphone it’s launching at IFA 2017

Sony smartphones have looked almost identical since forever. We exaggerate, we know. But there is a certain truth to it. And one element Sony keeps having on its phones are thicker than usual bezels. But the latest “news” from the rumour mill is the Japanese company might be ready to shed those bezels and they’re going to do it pretty soon. A post on Weibo (via Gizmo China) claims that Sony will be launching a truly bezel-less smartphone at IFA 2017, which is happening at the start of September in Berlin, Germany.

Samsung said to be making solid-state batteries for smartphones

Even if you haven’t paid that close of an eye to tech news, you’ve most likely heard of the whole fiasco that was the Samsung Galaxy Note7 and its exploding units. It looks like Samsung is hoping to address this issue by making batteries that won’t catch fire even if things go wrong. According to an unnamed Samsung executive, the company is working on solid-state batteries that can be used for smartphones. “Our technological level to produce a solid-state battery for smartphones will be mature enough in one to two years,” a Samsung SDI executive told The Korean Herald. “However, it depends on Samsung Electronics whether it will be used for phones.” According to the same exec, rival company LG Chem is also working on similar products.

Solid-state batteries don’t have any liquids that can spill or lead to fires and explosions. Lithium-ion batteries used in smartphones now have liquid electrolytes. These batteries, according to the Samsung SDI source, can also be used in electric vehicles but that’ll happen no sooner than 2025.

‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ isn’t getting a single-player DLC

If you have been waiting for a single-player DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda, then we’re sorry to disappoint you but that isn’t going to happen. Earlier this week, a fake company called Sinclair Networks claimed on a Facebook post to have been working on a single-player, story-based DLC for the title until it was killed. BioWare producers were quick to dispute this saying that they don’t hire “fake companies” to work on their DLCs and they haven’t heard of Sinclair Networks.

Even with that news, it looks like there wasn’t even a DLC in the works in the first place. As Slash Gear points out, this marks a big change from the original Mass Effect trilogy, which always had expansions. EA won’t release any official announcements yet but it’s safe to say that an Andromeda DLC isn’t in our future, especially since the Mass Effect franchise is on hold indefinitely due to this game’s mediocre reviews.

LG rumoured to be launching V30 at IFA

One of the rumoured leaks of the V30 shows the secondary display sliding out of the bottom of the device

If the recent report coming out of South Korea is to be believed, LG plans to launch the latest V30 flagship at IFA in Berlin. But they’ll be announcing it supposedly a “day before the opening day of IFA 2017,” which puts that at August 31st. Bringing the phone to IFA will be a first for the brand’s V series. It’ll reportedly also be the first time LG is holding preorder sales for the V line for at least three mobile network providers in South Korea. Whether that’ll extend to other countries isn’t known. But if LG does launch the V30 at IFA, it’ll give them a slight advantage over the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and new iPhone release, which are rumoured to be launching sometime in September.
