YouTube rumoured to be developing paid video subscription service

Hoping to take on the likes of Hulu and Vimeo, YouTube might be adding another paywall for its service. This time around, they’re focusing on a video on demand service. According to a report from Variety, this service will reportedly offer ad-free streaming of certain content, perhaps from some of the site’s biggest stars under its YouTube Originals umbrella. Not much is known about this report but the rumour started from an unnamed executive of a company that partners with YouTube to produce video content.

YouTube will neither confirm nor deny the report at the moment. But perhaps this is a way to help keep their creators in house and to help boost their bottom line.

Google tipped to be dipping into virtual reality

Not wanting to be left behind, Google is reportedly working on a version of Android that can power virtual reality apps. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company has a team of “tens of engineers” working on this project at the moment. Google reportedly plans to distribute this version for free, much like what they did for Android originally. We’re not sure how the market will react to this, especially with the likes of Facebook, HTC, Sony, Samsung, and Microsoft in the game. But the more options we have, the better.

Samsung tipped to release a dual edge display for next Galaxy Note

With the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge out of the way, the rumour mill for the next Galaxy Note have started turning. The next Note, which if they follow the usual timeline should come out in September at IFA, will reportedly have dual edge display.

Based on a report from Korea, Samsung’s executive vice president of product strategy team Roh Tae-moon said, “There is a possibility that Samsung will introduce the curved display for the Galaxy Note lineup.” We can’t tell this early on if that’ll be coming to Note 5 or Note Edge 2. September is still far away and we’re sure more leaks and rumours will be cropping up ‘til then.

Android Wear smartwatches might get iPhone support

It’s so far from confirmed but rumours are swirling that Android Wear devices might get support for the iPhone. Sources for French outlet 01net claim that Google is “preparing to launch” Android Wear app on iOS as a third-party app. If this were true, that would need a bit more work since this won’t be an Android-to-Android connection. But again, no one at Mountain View is confirming nor outright denying the rumour. We just have to wait and see if you can head out and buy that new Huawei or LG smartwatch for yourself.
