Video: Sony Xperia S Android Tablet Demoed

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Here's the demo of the Xperia S Android Tablet from Sony. Integrating a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, Bravia screen technology, advanced universal remote control functionality plus all the goodness you get from Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Xperia S tablet is available now from Sony Stores for $399 for the 16GB version and $499 for the 32GB version, both offer expandability via SD Card.

First impressions are that it is improved over last year's plastic model. Design is more subtle, there is an aluminium component that gives it a more premium feel while keeping the weight low. Sony is also launching a gamut of accompanying docks, cases and connectors to expand the ecosystem. The Xperia S tablet is also water resistant and is designed to be used in kitchens or by the pool. This could be the first lifestyle-focused Android tablet with some practical use cases.

While they've had some notable releases like the Xperia X10, the Xperia Arc and the game ready Xperia Play, Sony's been considered a fringe player in the Android smartphone game and its phones are usually on the high end of the pricing spectrum. Still, Sony has sold a notable numbe of smartphones in its Xperia line (over 30 million to date) and continues to innovate in the space.

The new Sony Xperia S ($99.00 on a 3-year Rogers phone plan) aims to impress in every area, with its stunning 4.3 inch display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a whopping 32GB of onboard storage and a 12 megapixel camera that shoots 1080p video, it could be a serious contender in the super smartphone space.
