Netflix vows to cut back on depictions of smoking after report of tobacco exposure in its programs

Netflix

Just before the third season of Stranger Things dropped, a report from the anti-smoking group Truth Initiative found that Netflix depicted tobacco use more often than even cable or broadcast shows. And the show mentioned earlier is named as one of biggest offenders. The report reads, “The popularity of streaming combined with the pervasive rise of smoking in episodic content points to an emerging threat to a new generation of young Americans.” The streaming service promises to depict smoking less and pledges to closely monitor, particularly the content it aims at younger viewers. Truth Initiative tracked not just the instances of smoking, but any appearance of tobacco products.

In a statement told to EW, Netflix said it “strongly supports artistic expression. We also recognize that smoking is harmful and when portrayed positively on screen can adversely influence young people. Going forward, all new projects that we commission with ratings of TV-14 or below for series or PG-13 or below for films, will be smoking and e-cigarette free—except for reasons of historical or factual accuracy. For new projects with higher ratings, there’ll be no smoking or e-cigarettes unless it’s essential to the creative vision of the artist or because it’s character-defining (historically or culturally important). In addition, starting later this year, smoking information will be included as part of our ratings on the Netflix service so our members can make informed choices about what they watch.”

‘Stranger Things 3’ trailer brings the gang back together

The Stranger Things crew are back together and we get plenty of onscreen action. It starts off with a homecoming party to Dustin and a look at all things ‘80s. Somehow the almost three-minute clip ends up with the Upside Down bringing in its menace and monstrosity into the mix. Perhaps a nod to when the show is going to air (July 4th), there is even a big Fourth of July party thrown in there.

Something creepy lurks in new ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 teaser

Just a few moments ago, we got a rather disturbing look at what could be lurking in the town of Hawkins, Indiana. Yes, that’s right. Stranger Things is coming back and we’re being told: “it’s almost feeding time.” And this means rats, apparently. A teaser was just released on the show’s social media accounts and all we see are rats running away. Are they running away from something sinister or towards something to feast on? We’re not quite sure, but the upside down smiley face is telling. Now, we can’t wait for the full trailer to drop. Stranger Things Season 3 is coming on July 4th.

‘Stranger Things’ will come back on July 4, 2019, releases first teaser for the next season

It’s finally here. Or at least we know it’s finally coming back. Netflix has just teased the upcoming season with a timely teaser. The Stranger Things 3 teaser dropped a few seconds into New Year’s Day by showing off the timeline of the new season, which is set in the summer of 1985, by opening on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve from the said year. There are many cryptic shots that we’re sure fans are going to continue to analyze until we get more details. Two key clues offered in the trailer include a computer screen with the highlighted phrase “When Blue and Yellow Meet in the West” and a hidden figure typing out commands to launch the program “SilverCatFeeds.exe.” We’re only ever really going to make sense of these when the eight-episode season drops on July 4, 2019. But feel free to dive into the world wide web and theorize away. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
