The Essential Phone is now available through TELUS

If you’ve been waiting for the release of the Essential Phone, the wait is over. Here in Canada, the unit is being offered exclusively by TELUS. It comes in Black Moon and goes for $1,050 if you get it without a plan or for $290 for a $95 per month, two-year plan or $490 for a $95 per month, two-year plan. As GSMArena reports, the Camera app on this device just got an update, which fixes an issue with saving 360-degree videos. It also boosted speed of color/mono image fusion as well as other general stability fixes.

Is your child smart phone ready? Take the TELUS quiz and discover the new and easy-to-use Digital Rate Plan Builder

Back to school is a time when many parents take inventory of what their kids need. Let’s face it, we all want our children to succeed and do their best in and out of the classroom. Aside from fresh new sneakers, backpacks and pants (why do they grow so much in the summer?) it may also be a time for a new smart phone or if they have one, it’s a good time to review what they have and how they’ve been using it.

The Essential Phone will be available in store and online later this summer.

Rather plain looking and blocky, the Essential Phone is crafted from titanium, offers expansion with a 360' camera and has a unique edge-to-edge display as well as premium smartphone features.

Wi-Fi calling comes to iPhone users on Telus

Telus subscribers who have iPhone 6 or newer and who have updated to iOS 10.2 can now avail of the Wi-Fi calling feature. Wi-Fi calling diverts calls from cellular to Wi-Fi when cell signals aren't great. The feture, when enabled, should seamlessly switch a user's phone service between cellular and Wi-Fi when needed. It's another way to ensure better call quality. Telus iPhone users with the iOS 10.2 OS installedcan simply turn the Wi-Fi calling feature on their 'Settings,' under the 'Phone' section.

“We’re excited to announce that Wi-Fi Calling is now available to TELUS iPhone customers! iPhone customers can send or receive calls, text and multimedia messages as usual, but if they ever experience poor cellular coverage, their iPhone will automatically switch to an available Wi-Fi connection for a more optimal experience. Most importantly, there is no additional cost. Wi-Fi calls and messages are billed the same way as regular calls and messages sent through the TELUS network,” a Telus rep explained.
