Netflix debuts ‘Cloverfield Paradox’ right after Super Bowl

Netflix has done something no streaming service has done before, drop a title it hasn’t promoted right after releasing its first trailer. It was reported before that the streaming service acquired Paramount and Bad Robot’s Cloverfield sequel and a Super Bowl spot promoting the film would come out. What hasn’t been announced was that Netflix will be making the film available for streaming right after the end of the Big Game. No other promotions have been done for the film ahead of this announcement. It’s a bold move but with a big audience it can be considered a wise move, too. The Super Bowl drew an average of 111.3M people in 2017.

As Deadline points out, this unusual marketing strategy complements the non-traditional marketing campaigns the original Cloverfield has done. Netflix describes the film’s plot as such: “In the near future, a group of international astronauts on a space station are working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth. The experimental technology aboard the station has an unexpected result, leaving the team isolated and fighting for their survival.” It’s directed by Julius Onah and produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber and stars Daniel Brühl, Roger Davies, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi.

First trailer of Ant-Man and the Wasp brings promise of fun from MCU

On the heels of a well-received Thor:Ragnarok and what looks to be a cultural phenomenon in Black Panther, Marvel is looking to run up the fun with Ant-Man and the Wasp which pairs Paul Rudd with Evangeline Lily and also has Michael Douglas reprising his role as inventor Hank Pym. Looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp will restore some joy after what is expected to be a very dark Avengers: Infinity War which hints at the demise of some Marvel heroes.

Doctor Strange makes appearance in New ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Japanese trailer

Thor: Ragnarok—or as it’s being called in Japan, Thor: Battle Royale—gets a new trailer as we near the release date of the film (it comes out November 3rd here). But while it’s pretty standard and showed off some of the clips we’ve seen before. The opening of the trailer shows us something, or should we say, someone new. Doctor Strange makes an appearance at the start of the trailer talking to Thor about a “great change” happening in his future. It might seem like a random appearance but it makes sense as Thor appeared in the mid-credits scene of Doctor Strange with them talking about Asgardian affairs.

Here’s your first look at ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

The first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi picks up from where we left off in The Force Awakens. A big chunk of the teaser focuses on Rey and Luke on the planet Ahch-To. He seems to be training her there but we hear a contradictory message from Luke at the end saying, “It’s time for the Jedi to end.” We catch glimpses of Finn in a pod, some big battles, and Poe Dameron running to his fighter which is suddenly caught in an explosion. There’s just enough action and suspense to keep us excited for the movie’s release on December 15th.
