Vimeo upgrades Pro accounts with 1TB storage per year

Vimeo Pro users have received a large storage increase from the streaming site. Those who pay $199 annually now receive 20GB of storage a week, amounting to 1TB annually. This is compared to the previous 50GB cap per year for Pro storage. The company also removed a few playback restrictions, gave full access to Vimeo’s On Demand store, and bolstered customer service support.

Vimeo entices filmmakers with new On Demand features

Video streaming site Vimeo has found its niche among independent filmmakers and is adding more features to attract these creators to use the site. Aside from offering funding for TIFF entries earlier this month, Vimeo’s On Demand video distribution platform added new pricing options and tools to help content creators make more money. Viewers can now buy (stream and download) or rent (stream only) videos at different prices. Creators can drum up publicity for their movies with preorders and when they log into their Pro account, they get a new dashboard featuring viewer statistics.

Vimeo wants to fund indie films to expand on-demand business

Vimeo wants to help out independent film producers at the same time broaden its Vimeo On Demand by giving filmmakers premiering their feature-length movies at the Toronto International Film Festival this week a $10,000 advance if they agree to distribute their films through the platform.

It’s not exactly enough to shoot most films but it is important to note that the 150 eligible movies showing at the festival have already been shot so the money can go to promotions. Vimeo On Demand offers the film creators a 90 percent cut of any sales and those who opt for the $10,000 advance agree to giving Vimeo a 30-day digital exclusive. This means they can go through traditional distribution channels after the 30-day period is over or once the initial $10,000 has been recouped. Filmmakers have to set a minimum download price of $4.99 on the platform.
