Sony tipped to be working on a new handheld console

Photo: Sony

Sony might finally come out with a handheld console you can take anywhere. Bloomberg reported that the company is working on a new standalone handheld designed to rival the Nintendo Switch. Details are scarce for now, so we can't share much beyond that idea.

While Sony has the PlayStation Portal, that handheld device worked more as a PlayStation 5 extension than a gaming console you can carry around. It was only until recently that you could stream games to your PSP if you had a PlayStation Plus subscription. Before this upgrade, the remote play function required the console to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the PlayStation 5. Now, you just need a Wi-Fi connection to enable that cloud gaming option. Sony hasn't responded to PC Mag when asked to comment about the report.
