Motoring: Jaguar's electric supercar concept roars at Paris Auto Show

Showing that it isn't just resting on its motoring and sportscar heritage, Jaguar clearly looks to the future during the Paris Auto Show by unveiling a concept that's both a supercar and an electric-gas vehicle. Meet the C-X75, arguably the most stunning Jaguar to come out of Coventry and one with a viable stake in future motor technology. More photos and video after the jump.

The C-X75 is a vehicle capable of reaching zero to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, and with styling the company said points the way to a new design language that redefines the carmaker's legacy.

The all-wheel drive C-X75 uses four electric motors, rated at 195 horsepower each and one for each wheel, to produce 778 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, with a top speed of 330 km/h. Two micro gas-turbines, spinning at 80,000 rpm, can generate enough electricity to extend the range to 900 kilometres and produce just 28 grams of CO2 per kilometre from the car’s plug-in charge capability. The car can travel approximately 109 km solely on battery power from the grid.

“The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar." - Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Car.

Advanced design features of the C-X75 such as a ground-breaking propulsion system and active aerodynamics allow for an elegantly simple fuselage section that remains stable at very high speeds.

The C-X75 is showcased in Jetstream Silver with Jaguar’s standard design philosophy of natural, flowing lines and simple, elegant forms. Where inspiration from the past was found is in the innovative engineering and functional design elements of cars like the 1950s C-Type and D-Type racers and unique 1966 XJ13 Le Mans prototype – a car described by Callum as, “arguably the most beautiful Jaguar ever made”.

Jaguar said that the C-X75 has been designed to celebrate 75 years of the marque and provide a glimpse into the future of the brand and its commitment to producing beautiful, fast cars powered by sustainable means.

“The C-X75 is a tribute to the people who shaped the iconic Jaguars that are revered to this day,” said Mike O’Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar Cars. “By making it an innovative testbed for the technologies of tomorrow, it also ensures that our reputation for engineering excellence will continue for another 75 years and beyond.”
