Bentley ad shot with Apple iPhone 5s and iPad Air

Bentley joins the list of companies experimenting with mobile devices to shoot promotional advertisements. The car company instructed photographers and videographers to shoot the ad Intelligent Details using an iPhone 5s. They then had to post-process the video on an iPad Air, which was mostly done in the back of a Bentley car. This ad then doesn’t just showcase Bentley’s offerings but the capabilities of Apple products as well. It seems to be a win-win for both companies.

Google to ban Android apps that use deceptive ads

Google wants to make sure its users aren’t being taken advantage of by bad developers. The tech giant released new rules for Google Play apps. They want advertisers to clarify how and when they will use in-app purchases.  They want to take out apps that have pop-up ads designed to spoof a service, app notification, or system in order to have you clicking on something you shouldn’t.

Google also wants to get rid of “promotion or install tactics” as well that force downloads or Play Store redirects with your approval. And they want to get rid of unsolicited SMS ads and any use of “erotic content” to promote pornography. The developers are given a 15-day grace period before Google bans those that don’t comply with the revised rules.

Mozilla to introduce ads in new tab page

While the new tab page on Firefox is usually reserved for your most visited sites, Mozilla is planning to introduce promotional tiles into that page. But first they will do so with those who cleared their history or those who are installing Firefox for the first time. The company guarantees they will label the tiles properly. As TechCrunch points out, this could be a trial to see how users will respond to the addition of ads into their space and could eventually be rolled out in a way that all new tab pages will feature some sort of sponsored link.

Microsoft’s new Super Bowl ad sets out to touch hearts

Microsoft isn’t particularly known for releasing touching advertisements that try marry technology with humanity. That seems to be more Apple’s territory. But their new ad for the Super Bowl seems to have hit a good spot. The new ad features the voice of former NFL safety Steve Gleason, who is suffering from ALS. (He has a longer video from Microsoft here.) Microsoft has set out to explain how technology helps different kinds of people get through life and experience the world around them.
