Logitech releases new iPad and iPad mini Folio keyboard

iPad and iPad mini users looking for keyboard options should check out Logitech's latest Folio releases for both tablets. The folio line turns the iPad or iPad mini into a book-like device which fold open to reveal fully tactile, island style (or chiclet, if you prefer) keyboard. Protecting the front and the back of the iPads, the Folio features EasyType. Which Logitech says reinvents typing on the iPad with full-size keys that give users the feel and comfort of a traditional keyboard.  Keys are where you expect them to be and custom iPad shortcuts add convenience while conserving valuable screen space.

Belkin launching its own iPad mini keyboard case

Let the iPad mini slim keyboard-case wars begin! After Logitech announced a mini version of its Ultrathin bluetooth keyboard, rival Belkin has dropped its own take at this growing niche in the accessory market. As Belkin's website explains, "the FastFit Keyboard Case for iPad mini is the lightest and thinnest enhancement to your iPad mini experience! It's a case for your iPad mini and it's a comfortable, long-lasting wireless keyboard, allowing for easy typing to update social media, a blog or even texting!. The keyboard's TruType keys are larger than most 7" keyboards, and perform like laptop-type keys, allowing for fast typing with fewer errors than other small keyboards." Pre-orders for the FastFit keyboard case are now open. Pricing is expected to be $79.99.

BlackBerry 10 to launch on January 30, 2013

We finally have a date for one of the most anticipated smartphone releases. The launch of Research In Motion's BlackBerry 10 OS and devices will be on January 30, 2013. RIM expects to have a sizeable number of apps to get new users up and running. This is very exciting news and I am happy that RIM has committed to a date and is working towards that target. It is evident that BB10 is designed more around work and lifestyle than previous BlackBerry products so it should be interesting to see how RIM meets needs in those areas.

The promise? "BlackBerry 10 will offer a large catalog of the leading applications from across the globe and across all categories, including Games, Productivity, Social, Lifestyle and Leisure, Multimedia and Published Content, as well as applications designed for business and enterprise use." We sure hope so. Hit jump for more details from RIM's official press release.

Are these RIM's new BlackBerry 10 smartphones?

One of the biggest questions that RIM watchers have asked is whether there will be a QWERTY keyboard BB10 smartphone and the answer from RIM has always been yes even if they showed off the new OS on a multi-touch smartphone, the Dev Alpha device.

The image above, a screenshot from a video (Update: Original Vimeo video has been taken down) shows both an multi-touch display BlackBerry and a QWERTY keyboard and a large touchscreen smartphone that's similar to the BlackBerry Bold. There's no telling if this is final hardware but whatever will be released in 2013 will likely look very similar. These devices represent the L Series (full touchscreen) which will come to market first, while the N series the anticipated BlackBerry 10 phone that features a full qwerty keyboard and familiar styling.
