Netflix teases 2nd season of ‘The Punisher,’ show said to be ‘coming soon’

And then there were two. And by this, we mean the last two Marvel TV shows on Netflix: Jessica Jones and The Punisher. While we don’t know the fate of the former, the latter is at least getting a second season. Netflix just teased the second season of The Punisher with a video of Castle burning the pardon he received at the end of the first season. This means he isn’t giving up his role as the Punisher. The streaming service didn’t say when it’s coming out and opted to just say “Coming Soon.” Will the show have a life on the service beyond the second season, we aren’t sure either. One by one, Netflix has been cancelling its Marvel shows, perhaps in response to Disney (Marvel’s parent company) putting up its own streaming service. We also don’t know if these shows will get a second life on Disney’s own service. Only time will tell at this point.

‘Daredevil’ showrunner pitches fourth season of the show to Netflix

We don’t know what the future is for Daredevil but at least we know that its showrunner Erik Oleson is trying to keep it going. Reviews for the third season of the Charlie Cox-led Marvel show has been positive with the story going back to basics, as Screen Rant describes, with a deep dive into Matt Murdock’s psyche. And while plots have been wrapped up, fans aren’t ready to see the show go. But with the cancellation of other Marvel-Netflix like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, it reminds us that none of these Marvel shows are safe. Oleson, who took over showrunning duties in season 3, revealed on Twitter that he’s sent to Netflix his plans for season 4. The details obviously haven’t been revealed but at least we know there are plans for another season. And now we can only hope for the best. What do you think? Would you want another season?

Disney confirms Loki-centric limited series for its streaming service

Marvel

Sometime ago it was rumoured that a limited run series that revolved around characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch were being developed by Disney for its upcoming streaming service, Disney+. Now, the company has confirmed that the Loki series is happening. Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as the trickster god but it isn’t clear where this story will fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. There isn’t a word yet either about release dates or the number of episodes the show will have.

Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ gets axed after two seasons

NetflixAfter its first season gets critically panned and the second seeming to do better, Marvel’s Iron Fist won’t be coming back for a third season to redeem itself. Netflix and Marvel released a joint statement that the show will not be coming back for a third season. The statement said, “Marvel's Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We're thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we've shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Iron Fist was part of a five-show deal between Marvel and Netflix that includes shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Defenders. The Punisher was later added to the lineup as a Daredevil spinoff. The cancellation comes on the heels of Disney planning to launch its direct-to-consumer streaming platform that will compete against Netflix. Disney has already announced its plans to pull all Marvel feature films from the streaming service but will keep the Marvel TV shows on until these run their course.
