Google starts rollout of Calendar spam protection

A nuisance that started rolling out on Google Calendar recently finally gets a new fix. Google started rolling out a new enabled-by-default spam filter. The system will automatically detect calendar invites sent to your Gmail address. If they see it's from someone you've never communicated with, it will block the invitations. You can revisit the email invite, respond to it, and add it to your calendar. If you're unclear if you have this new feature, Google has been sending out an email on top of the pop-up that shows up in the app.

Google Calendar on mobile can create, view Tasks

Before this new update, it was only possible to view Google Tasks entries via a dedicated app on mobile. But Google has started to roll out an update where the information you put in Tasks will show up in the Google Calendar app on both Android and iOS devices. 

Like adding new calendar events, you can add tasks by tapping on the + sign to add new tasks. These will show up in the right sidebar or on the day they are scheduled. The rollout of the feature has started, and it will take a couple of weeks. So, be a bit patient if it hasn't made its way to you yet.

Google makes Working Hours feature in Calendar more prominent for G Suite users

One of the things Google improves is its Digital Wellbeing features. The company encourages "work-life balance," and one way they want to help out users is when it comes to telling others about their availability. The Working Hours feature is now more prominent. G Suite users will have this feature turned on by default. You can set your work times, but when this feature is enabled, Google will estimate your working hours based on previous appointments. Similarly, when you schedule a meeting in the app, Google will take note of the working hours of other invitees. 

The aim is also to help reduce the back and forth when trying to schedule meetings. If you plan a meeting outside of someone's Working Hours, you will receive a notification that "Some people might decline." Elsewhere, you'll see a purple briefcase icon that features a strikethrough and notes "Outside working hours" beside the invitees' name. All G Suite users will start getting this feature, and it'll be fully available later this month.

Google Material Design theme hits web version of Calendar

It was bound to happen and now it looks like it’s finally here. Google has been slowly introducing its Material Design theme into the web version of its products. The latest app to get a revamp is Google Calendar. The changes are a bit subtle here with new buttons, hollow icons, and font tweaks. It looks cleaner from our perspective and matches the other products more.
