SlideShow: A look inside Pinterest's San Francisco office

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

We visited Pinterest's offices today in San Francisco to learn more about their goals, approach and innovation (stay tuned for a more comprehensive story on this original internet and mobile player). Part of the visit was a tour of their office and facilities. Housed in a restored warehouse, Pinterest's open-type offices are replete with interesting installations, employee-made art and various spots that make working and kicking back a lot more fun than a traditional office.

i've always been fascinated by the offices of highly creative technology companies. Aside from the perks they give their employees, it's interesting to see how the culture and character of a company is revealed by its interiors, common areas and quirky installations. Pinterest's office looks like an awesome place to work.

Pinterest introduces Guided Search feature to mobile devices

Pinterest has rolled out an expanded search engine of sorts for Android and iOS. Guided Search is designed to help you look for specific pins or give you an idea of what else you want to check out on the site. It shows you a list of Pinterest tiles popular with other users and additional keywords related to your initial search to narrow down your search more. For example, you type in “running” and then it shows you keywords like “songs” and “tips.”

This new feature not only appeals to users looking to widen the scope of their searches on the site but can help advertisers target their potential customers. Pinterest recently just started exploring the idea of paid advertising so this can be seen as a move to develop that further. And they would have a large database to dip into. Pinterest says they now host 750 million boards with 30 billion pins. According to the site, guided search will roll out on the web and everywhere else soon.

Pinterest lets users create unlimited secret boards

Pinterest used to limit the number of secret boards its users can create to three. Now, the visual discovery site allows its users to create as many boards as they want. So, if you are the perpetual party planner (or actually do that for a living), you can have as many boards as you can to keep track of your plans.

Pinterest updates Chrome extension adds hovering “Pin It” button, right-click to pin capability

Pinterest released an update for Chrome extension to make it easier for users to pin images from different sites. Just hover your mouse over an image and the “Pin It” icon appears on the upper left corner. Pinterest is also helping you attribute properly by including the URL in the pin description if the image is in a blog post or article. Users can disable the feature through the Chrome extension.

Pinterest has also added a right-click to pin feature for those who want a more inconspicuous option to saving images. The company claims these new features will be available on other browsers soon.
