Pinterest to integrate ads in home feed

Looking to monetize more, Pinterest will now be showing ads on the home feed. Promoted Pins (a.k.a. ads) were previously only seen in search results and category feeds. Now, it will show up in the home feed for U.S. pinners. They can choose to hide the Promoted Pins if they don’t want to see them. But that is one additional step to take. There isn’t anything in the announcement yet if it’ll make its way here, but we won’t be surprised if it will.

Pinterest unveils new look, simpler navigation for Android

Taking its cues from Android’s Material Design user interface, Pinterest has updated its Android app to give it a more vibrant yet intuitive experience. Aside from its new look, Pinterest also improved navigation on the app to make it easier to move around and it is supposed to be faster. The company claims they have reduced the launch time of the app from 5.3 seconds to 2 seconds. The latest update is currently rolling out so you should expect to see it in the coming days.

Pinterest gets private messaging feature

Pinterest is looking to keep its users engaged in the site with a new private messaging feature integrated into the service. To access private messaging on Pinterest, users have to start a conversation by sending a Pin to another user that also comes with a message. You can then continue your conversation without using Pins after that. It is also possible to send group messages this way.

Pinterest is hoping this would help users plan events or other things in the future. “This is different from other messaging platforms because conversations are around a Pin and are focused on planning something for the future,” a spokesperson wrote in an email to press. It doesn’t really matter how you plan on using this feature but it would seem Pinterest just wants to make sure you stay engaged on their platform longer.

Pinterest lands on Windows Phone

Windows Phone users are getting one more must-have social media app that has been missing from its repertoire. Pinterest has released an official beta app for the platform that will let you do most of what you can on the mobile website. But this is probably because the beta version is a shortcut to the mobile web client mixed with a few Windows Phone-native features. Of course, this is the beta version of the app so you can expect it to have the same tight integration Pinterest has established on both Android and iOS. The company is asking for feedback though so make sure to let them know what you think of the app.
