When the Apple iPad came early this year it redefined the a new market segment. The iPad brought with it the promise of truly untethered mobile computing without the need for a physical keyboard or even a full-blown operating system. Eight months down the line, challengers are beginning to emerge but are any of them truly competitive or is Apple too far ahead?
It was bound to happen. The long awaited Samsung Galaxy Tablet is reportedly launching in Q3 2010. This long-rumoured Android-powered tablet is said to be running version 2.1 of Google's mobile OS and with the customary Samsung TouchWiz overlay. It will offer a 7-inch AMOLED display, smaller than the 10-inch Apple iPad. We're sure this is the first of many upcoming tablet devices hitting the market for the back-to-school season.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab which was initially caught on Twitter is now shown above in a video by Gianclaro. As we feast our eyes on Samsung's iPad rival we see its uncanny resemblance to Apple's device even in terms of its glass to aluminium ratio an dock connector. It does seem to be running Android and not Samsung's TouchWIZ or Bada OS.
Some alleged specs : 7″ SUPER AMOLED display, 1.2 GHz A8 processor, 16GB internal storage, SD-card reader with 32GB expansion capabilities, 4,000 mAh battery, and running Android 2.2 Froyo. The source says the tablet will allegedly weigh in at 370-grams (0.82 lbs) and carry the model number P1000.
The video is no more. It has been removed from YouTube but we managed to get a blurrycam photo in its place.
