Samsung overtakes Nokia as top phone maker with record $5.2 Billion Profits

Samsung's on a roll. They've just overtaken longtime phone leader Nokia by shipping 92 million cellfones worldwide in Q1 2012 while Nokia sold 83 million units. Samsung also posted profits of US $5.2 billion dollars for the period.

Samsung makes various feature phones but is popular for its Galaxy range of Android smartphones which is composed of various models in a range of screen sizes and features. Samsung's feature phone and smartphone sales now make up 40% of their total profits, which is remarkable for a company that makes so many products.

A standalone Bluetooth Mini Keyboard and a Convertible Case designed to hold both the PlayBook and the keyboard while on the go. Freeing up limited screen real estate and giving users a better QWERTY keyboard typing experience (plus a trackpad) the Mini Keyboard will be a popular add on to input oriented PlayBook users.

RIM shares some BlackBerry app and developer milestones

Research in Motion is sharing some good news focusing on developer and app adoption for the PlayBook as well as for current generation smartphones. RIM's been getting a lot of heat lately due to continuing losses and its struggle to compete with current smartphones and services. We'd like to give them a bit of credit for being able to generate some excitement from the developer community and bring more apps to their platform while preparing their next generation devices.
