TCL brings Roku TVs for the first time in Canada

For the first time ever, TCL is launching its portfolio of Roku TV models in Canada. Top of the line is the Roku TV 6-Series, which brings 4K high dynamic range performance with a “stealth metal design.” It supports Dolby Vision, open HDR, and HDR Performance Package Pro to give you better brightness and contrast as well as richer and more detailed colours. TCL credits this to a mix of technologies like its own Contrast Control Zones, Wide Color Gamut with NBP Photon, iPQ Engine, and HDR Pro Gamma. The 6-Series comes in a 55-inch (55R617-CA) and 65-inch (65R617-CA) models with the former retailing for $849 and the latter for $1,249.

Bang & Olufsen introduces BeoVision Horizon, an Android-powered 4K TV

It’s not Bang & Olufsen’s first venture into the 4K UHD space so we were hoping it packed in the latest High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology (unfortunately, it does not). But the new BeoVision Horizon isn’t exactly a slouch either. Coming with 40- or 48-inch screens, these stylish yet minimalist TVs come with different stands to suit your preference. There is the default wall mount, a rolling cart design (which Digital Trends pointed out looks like the TVs we borrowed from AV department at school), and a pivoting stand that lets the screen pan from left to right. It’s an Android TV so expect all the features the platform has to offer.

The remote makes use of both Bluetooth and IR so you don’t even need to point it at the TV to get it to work. The remote is a looker in itself, being made out of a single piece of aluminum. The TVs include four HDMI 2.0 inputs (which support HDCP 2.2) to allow for other 4K sources to be connected. It also has HEVC and VP9 codecs included so you can stream 4K content from YouTube, Netflix, and the like. 

Get ready to stream 'Breaking Bad' in 4K on Netflix

Netflix has previously said they had plans on streaming more 4K ultra-high definition content. The streaming service makes good on its promise and is now streaming the extremely popular TV series Breaking Bad in UHD.  All markets with Netflix can now stream the series in all its 4K glory starting today. But there is a caveat. You can only stream Breaking Bad in 4K from an Ultra HD 4K Smart TV that supports Netflix. If you have one of those, then get ready to re-immerse yourself in Walter White’s world.

House of Cards was the first series the company offered in 4K and they said they plan to stream all its original content in 4K format.

Samsung to sell bendable TV, 105-inch curved UHD this year

Aside from the bendable 85-inch 4K Ultra HD TV, Samsung also unveiled a gigantic 105-inch curved UHD TV at CES this week. It would seem the devices aren’t just concepts. Engadget confirmed that the TV sets will be up for sale in the second half of 2014. There is no information about the pricing yet but we are willing to bet it will cost an arm and a leg and then some. Better start saving up.
