Costco Canada offers an almost 20% discount on iTunes gift cards

Now is the best time to get an iTunes gift card from Costco. The retailer is offering almost 20 percent off the gift cards. There are three price tiers it's available on: the $25 card goes for $20.99, the $100 card goes for $83.99, and the $200 card goes for $167.99. The caveat is this offer is only available online for members only. There is also a four-card limit per person. Costco will email a digital code for the gift cards. This offer is available until October 27. As MobileSyrup points out, one great way to spend it is on getting either an Apple TV+ or Disney+ subscription.

Apple might be shutting down iTunes soon

Embed from Getty Images

We might see the end of iTunes soon. Apple is holding its annual developer's conference this coming week and rumours have been going around for a while that the company is ready to drop its bloated media app. According to BloombergApple is ready to spin off the many components of the iTunes app into their own individual apps. Apple has launched a TV app to complement its Apple TV+ video service. So, it isn't far-fetched that it spins everything else off, especially with rumours that macOS desktop apps can mimic its iOS counterparts. This means you get separate Music, Podcasts, and TV apps. The Music app could take over managing all the different "iThings" as Engadget calls them (local backups, OS updates, etc.). We're going to hear more when the Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off in San Jose, California on Monday.

Apple is bringing iTunes to Samsung’s 2018 and 2019 TVs

In another display of how Apple is shifting its strategy, the company is partnering with one of its biggest rivals to bring iTunes and Apple AirPlay 2 to Samsung’s current and upcoming line of TVs. This marks the first time Apple is allowing a third-party access its library outside of Windows PCs. Owners of Samsung 2019 and 2018 TVs will be able to play their iTunes movie and TV show library as well as buy and rent content from a dedicated app coming to these TVs. The 2018 models will get the feature via a firmware update. The iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will be coming to 100 countries (no specifics yet on which ones). To protect its users’ privacy, Apple told The Verge Samsung’s smart TV ad-tracking features will not work within the app.

On top of this, Apple is also bringing AirPlay 2 support to Samsung Smart TVs in 190 countries worldwide. This means, you can stream videos, photos, music, podcasts, and the like from your Apple devices directly to Samsung TVs, which include the QLED 4K and 8K TVs, The Frame and Serif lifestyle TVs, as well as other Samsung UHD and HD models.
